Prosecutors wanted the jury to hear from close friends and relatives of the Abulabans. On the stand was Ali's cousin who was communicating with him at the time of the murders. Jurors learned more about what may have motivated this TikTok star to plot and carry out the murders of his wife and her friend. According to his cousin, Ali got jealous that his wife was hanging out with another man after they separated. This was after Ali himself had sex with another woman in the couple's apartment.

Months before she and her friend Rayburn Barron were killed, she was allegedly beaten, harassed, and even stalked by Ali. And she was forced to go to the police several times. The defense had questions for his wife's best friend. Julia Stuntz knew all about the drama between the two which included allegations of him trashing the apartment after he was kicked out, spying on her, and stalking her.

Prosecutors wanted to portray the defendant, Ali Abulaban, as an abusive, jealous, out-of-control husband whose behavior led him to plot and kill his wife, Ana, and her friend, Rayburn Barron. Jurors heard from not one, but two close friends of Ana's who testified about the bruises on her face and arms allegedly caused by her estranged husband, Ali.

The allegations of abuse were crucial to the State's case against TikTok star-turned murder suspect Ali Abulaban. Before he was accused of shooting his wife, Ana, and her friend, Rayburn Barron, Ali was allegedly abusive toward Ana before their eventual separation. According to Ana's friends, she wanted to leave her husband. But she felt that she couldn't because divorce is discouraged in Filipino culture. Also, if she had divorced him, she could be deported, leaving her daughter with Ali.

Jurors learned about the physical abuse allegations against Ali Abulaban, along with accusations that he stalked his estrange wife Ana, and even spied on her. He was accused of first-degree murder in her death and that of her friend, Rayburn Barron. Friends of both victims gave the jury context as to what was actually going on in the home of Ali and Ana Abulaban. She chose to separate. But in the end, Ana would be shot to death and Ali was accused of her murder.
