Jurors listened intently to the testimony of Tom Merriman's neighbor. He recalled his last interactions with Tom before he died. According to this neighbor, he was slurring his words and struggling to walk. The jury then saw more crime scene photos in court. They included interior and exterior shots of both the defendant's home and that of the victim, Tom Merriman's house. They were stepfather and stepdaughter but they were also next-door neighbors.

Jurors saw more crime scene photos showing how the body of Tom Merriman was found. He was covered in clothing and dumped in a pile of trash in his driveway. Photos that law enforcement collected in their investigation into Merriman's death showed a timeline of events. On the stand, was the investigator who pieced together all the photos taken in the days before the homicide and then in the days afterward.

The cross-examination began on the detective who interrogated Jade Janks after her stepfather, Tom Merriman, was found dead. The defense critiqued the police's work in this case, especially on how they seemed to zero in on the defendant. Next, the former girlfriend of an alleged fixer linked testified. The defense was intent on discrediting Brian Salomon who testified that Janks asked him to help her kill her stepfather.
S1, EP9 "Tools For The Murder"
A detective who worked the investigation into Tom Merriman's death collected a number of items linked to this case which included a black glove, nylon cords, a towel and ropes. Jade Janks told detectives that she bought the items at a nearby pharmacy for a project. But authorities believed she had a more sinister use for them, murder. Next, a neighbor of the victim told the jury that the last time he saw Merriman alive was the day before police say he was killed.
