Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP84 "Challenging The State's Key Witness"
The sparring between Karen Read's attorney and the prosecution's key witness was not over yet. Under cross-examination, Jennifer McCabe continued to deny that she and her family took part in a cover-up linked to the death of John O'Keefe. Jurors listened to what a key witness did in the days following John O'Keefe's death. The defense was trying to show that Jennifer McCabe's actions and statements to police were suspicious. But she denied that she was trying to cover anything up.
S1, EP85 "More Accusatory Questions"
The death of John O'Keefe took a mental toll on the State's key witness. Jennifer McCabe was with the defendant when they found the victim in the snow. She was the one who called 911 to try to save him. The Defense tried to poke holes in her testimony by asking her a number of accusatory questions asserting that she is covering up what happened to her friend, O'Keefe. McCabe told the jury: I never would have left John O'Keefe out in the cold to die because he was my friend that I loved.
S1, EP86 "Key Witness Wraps Up Testimony"
The State's key witness claimed the defendant changed her story about what happened to John O'Keefe multiple times the morning he died. One of those versions was that he was killed when a snowplow hit him. Jennifer McCabe wrapped up her testimony on the stand by expounding for the jury what she and her family went through. She told them that they have experienced constant harassment in person and on social media. She called it a social media witch hunt.
S1, EP87 "Kerry Roberts"
Jurors would hear next from the other woman who had been with Karen Read and Jennifer McCabe when they found John O'Keefe. Kerry Roberts testified that the defendant was hysterical and distraught when they were out looking for him. Jurors heard about a mysterious phone call the defendant made to O'Keefe's friend. It was just minutes before he was found in the snow. She told Roberts quote: I'm afraid John might be dead. He might have gotten hit by a plow. He didn't come home last night.
