The crime scene was staged. That's what prosecutors said about the fatal attack on Brenda Powell. Investigators came across blood found in different areas of the home. They said it looked like it was made to appear that an intruder had broken in and killed her. Jurors listened to more detailed testimony from Lieutenant David Whiddon, the lead investigator on the case. The defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity claiming she had a psychotic break during the attack.

The Defense had questions for the lead investigator who looked deeper into Sydney Powell's background. Jurors were given the timeline of events leading up to the murder of her mother, Brenda. The first mental health expert took the stand. According to Dr. James Reardon who evaluated Sydney Powell, she had the early signs of schizophrenia. He added that as a result of this severe mental health issue, she could not appreciate that what she was doing was wrong. Defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity claiming she had a psychotic break during the attack.
