When Eleanor learns that Edward intends to honour his engagement to Lucy Steele, even after he is disinherited, she and Marianne decide to leave London. They stay with Mrs Jennings' daughter in Cleveland where Marianne falls gravely ill, but Brandon helps nurse her.
