American Supernatural
The title "American Supernatural" may be a bit deceiving as the hourlong show doesn't have much to do with the paranormal, rather, the show offers a look into the earth sciences through the origins of frightening weather-inspired legends, including a bad moon rising and a wicked wind blowing. Discussions of the geographical and meteorological elements that led to featured phenomena accompany firsthand accounts of people who experienced the weather events.

In Coastal Maine, legend has it that a ghost haunts a road called Black Woods; it is said that on foggy nights, the ghost of Catherine stalks this area looking for her true love, her head, and a ride back to town.

In the late 17th century, accused witch, Moll Dyer, was burned out of her home with flames and fury during a deadly freeze. Legend says she froze to death moments after cursing the town in a vengeful rage.

A Greek portico pillar is in the center of one of Augusta, Georgia's most famous legends. In the 1800s, some believe a wandering preacher threatened that a great wind would destroy the town's bustling market except for one pillar.

Legend has it that in the early 1800's a young man wearing a long gray coat rushed home to see his true love on Pawley's Island, South Carolina.He perished in the pluff mud while attempting to cross at high tide.
