International Women's Soccer League (IWSL) is a premier soccer league for women’s teams around the world. The league is made up of some of the top soccer teams in the world as well as developmental teams. The IWSL has been around since 1998 and is the highest level of professional women’s soccer. The league is divided into two divisions, each with nine teams. The top teams in each division compete in the playoff division. The top four teams in each division advance to the playoffs, where they compete for the league title. The IWSL features some of the top teams and players in women's soccer. Manchester City Women, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Lyon are four of the top teams in the league. Popular players include Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan , Carli Lloyd, and Marta Vieira da Silva. The IWSL also features some of the longest-standing sponsors in women's soccer. The league is sponsored by Under Armour, Nike, Puma, and Adidas. This sponsorship helps to ensure the league remains competitive and helps draw in fans from around the world. The IWSL regular season format is a double round-robin format with 12 matches, two against each team of the opposite division. The top four teams in the league at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs, where they compete for the league title. The IWSL also hosts the annual SheBelieves Cup, a tournament featuring the top four teams in the league. The tournament is hosted by the United States Soccer Federation and features some of the top international talent in women's soccer. Since its inception in 1998, the IWSL has grown into one of the world's premier women's soccer leagues. The league has seen some of the game's top players come through it including Michelle Akers, Julie Foudy, Abby Wambach, and many more.
