Women's College Volleyball
Women’s College Volleyball is a highly competitive NCAA sport favored by millions of viewers worldwide. The teams competing in Women’s College Volleyball are composed of athletes from universities across the country. Every year there are regular season conference matches, culminating in the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. Among the most popular teams in the history of women’s college volleyball are Stanford, Nebraska, and Texas. Those three teams have won a combined 18 NCAA Championships and continue to be the top contenders each year. In the NCAA Volleyball season, teams typically play a 30-match regular season with 20 of those matches ended by the end of October. In November, teams compete in conference championships, then participate in regional tournaments to find the 16 teams that will compete in the National Championship tournament. The tournament follows a single elimination structure and runs from December until just before the start of the next season. Athletes playing Division I Women’s Volleyball have set records for points scored, kills, blocks and hitting percentage. A few prominent current players are Wisconsin's Dana Rettke, Abbey Nichols of Stanford, and Penn State's Hannah Thompson, each of whom have had heavily successful careers already. Historically, Nebraska has been the most successful NCAA Women’s Volleyball team, leading with five national titles, followed by Stanford and Texas. Other successful teams include UCLA and University of the Pacific who have won four championships each, and Penn State, and Northern Iowa who have three. Women's College Volleyball is one of the most watched sports in the NCAA and continues to showcase some of the best athletes in the amateur sporting world. With the intensity of competition reach unprecedented levels, the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship continues to be one of the most sought-after titles in college sports.
