Women's College Basketball is a fast-paced and intense sport that has been gaining a lot of attention in recent years. There are numerous collegiate teams competing in the NCAA Women's Basketball Division I and II with top programs such as UConn Huskies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Baylor Lady Bears, Louisville Cardinals, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinals, Oregon State Beavers, and many more. The regular season for Women's College Basketball begins in November and concludes with the Big Dance: the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. During the regular season, teams play for their respective conferences in an effort to win their conference championship and compete for an at-large bid to the Tournament. The post-season also features the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) and conference tournaments that determine which teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament is a single-elimination tournament made up of 64 teams that includes conference champions plus 31 other teams chosen by a selection committee. The tournament culminates in the Women’s Final Four, which is a highly anticipated event that brings together the best college teams in the nation to compete for the national championship. There are several top contenders in the Women's College Basketball world right now, including Breanna Stewart and Nikkie Caldwell from UConn, Notre Dame’s Natalie Achonwa, and Baylor’s Odyssey Sims. All four of these standouts were recently selected in the first round of the 2014 WNBA draft. Other top players and their respective teams include Brittany Griner with the Baylor Bears, Skylar Diggins with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Chiney Ogwumike with the Stanford Cardinal. Women's college basketball is a historic and cherished sport that has been around since the 1940's. The inaugural women’s championship in 1982 marked the birth of the Women’s NIT Tournament, the predecessor to the current NCAA tournament. In 1987, the first NCAA Women's Basketball Division I and II was officially established. The game continues to amaze fans with its undeniable intensity and athletes who possess unparalleled skills. Kentucky at Purdue
Women's College BasketballThe No. 16 Wildcats (8-1) hit the road to face the Boilermakers (5-4) in the Hoosier State. Purdue is 2-0 against Kentucky, with the last meeting occurring in 2000. Purdue is coming off a 78-69 loss to then-No. 7 Maryland in its Big Ten opener.
Utah at Washington
Women's College BasketballThe Huskies and Utes renew their rivalry in Seattle. Utah has won four of the past five versus Washington, but the Huskies claimed the final meeting as Pac-12 equals March 2. Hannah Stines (WASH) averaged 17.5 points per game against Utah in 2023-24.
Longwood at Florida
Women's College BasketballThe Gators (6-4) boast a potent three-pronged attack as they host the Lancers (7-4). Six-foot-6 senior Ra Shaya Kyle, freshman Liv McGill and senior Jeriah Warren combine to average 47.5 points per game, nearly 58% of Florida's offensive output.
Miami at Pittsburgh
Women's College BasketballMiami (8-1) rolls into this matchup with Pittsburgh (6-5). The Hurricanes' 62-44 victory last season was their 10th in a row in the series with the Panthers. Pitt snapped a four-game skid last time out with a 59-51 win over Saint Peter's on Dec. 8.
