WNBA

The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a professional basketball league in the United States that was established in 1996. The league is composed of twelve teams; Atlanta Dream, Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, Indiana Fever, Las Vegas Aces, Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Seattle Storm, and Washington Mystics. All teams are owned by the National Basketball Association (NBA).\n\nThe WNBA season is 34 games over 17 weeks, running from late-May to mid-August. The Playoffs start with the four best teams from each conference competing in a single-elimination tournament. The two conference champions advance to the Finals and play a best-of-five series to determine the league champion.\n\nThe WNBA has produced some of the biggest stars in the sport, many of whom have become household names. Players like Maya Moore, Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi have all captivated audiences with their skill and athleticism. This talent is demonstrated every year by the All-Star Game, which showcases the best players in the league. A number of awards are given out over the course of the season, including Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award.\n\nSince its inaugural season, the WNBA has become one of the most competitive and successful women's sports leagues in the world. Over the years, it has vastly increased the number of players, teams, fans and even media attention that it has received. The league has surpassed many milestones such as the one million mark for attendance, an increase in television ratings, and the introduction of new rules that have enhanced the game and driven the WNBA to even greater heights.\n\nToday, the WNBA is the premier destination for female professional basketball players, and has taken a major step forward in promoting gender equality in the sport. The league continues to challenge the cultural barriers and advocate for women around the world. WNBA stands with a proud history of rising to the occasion and continues to provide an inspiring example of what fandom can accomplish.
