\n\nCollege Basketball, also known as NCAA Basketball, is the highest level of basketball competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. College Basketball teams are made up of student-athletes attending institutions of higher education in the United States. It is one of the most popular sports in the country, with some of the most renowned NCAA Basketball teams including Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Syracuse, and Louisville. College Basketball is noted for its competitive intensity and passion that the student-athletes exhibit. \n\nEach NCAA Basketball season consists of a regular season with each team playing approximately 3-4 conferences games and 20-25 games outside of the conference. The season is then capped off with the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly referred to as the “Big Dance” or the “March Madness”, where 68 teams compete in single-elimination bracket to determine the Division I National Champion. This tournament remains one of the most popular sporting events in the United States and is often the most “bet on” event of the year in the US. \n\nNCAA Basketball has a long and rich history dating back to its first recorded game in 1892 and only getting more popular as the years went on. Some of the big names that have graced the NCAA Basketball courts over the years include: Lew Alcindor (renamed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once converted to Islam), Bill Walton, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James; to name a few. \n\nOverall, college basketball continues to remain one of the most popular sports in the US, with intense rivalries and passion for the sport fueling the culture of the competition. NCAA Basketball season excites fans and players alike every year, as they hope for a sweet victory in the tournament and the chance to take home a National Championship.

An all-Land of Lincoln contest sees the Cougars (7-6, 0-2 OVC) host the Leathernecks (7-6, 1-1). Western Illinois is 2-0 against SIU-Edwardsville since joining the Ohio Valley Conference in 2022. Ryan Myers (WIU) averaged 22.5 points in those wins.

Denver at South Dakota State

The Pioneers and Jackrabbits kick off their Summit League slates with this contest. South Dakota State defeated Denver 76-68 in last season's Summit League Tournament final. Denver dropped three matches in a row to enter conference play at 6-9.

Maryland at Washington

The Terrapins and Huskies resume their Big Ten seasons. The programs have never met. Maryland is 1-1 in conference, defeating Ohio State 83-59 and losing at then-No. 8 Purdue 83-78. Washington is 0-2, falling at UCLA 69-58 and to USC 85-61.

Illinois at Oregon

The No. 9 Ducks and No. 22 Fighting Illini resume their Big Ten campaigns at Matthew Knight Arena. The programs haven't met since 2014. Each team is 1-1 in conference with Oregon defeating USC 68-60 and Illinois topping then-No. 20 Wisconsin 86-80.

Purdue at Minnesota

The No. 20 Boilermakers vie for their fifth straight victory over the rival Golden Gophers. Purdue has won six of the last seven meetings with the past four by a combined 64 points. Purdue is 1-1 in conference, defeating Maryland on Dec. 8, 2024.

Virginia Tech at Duke

The No. 4 Blue Devils (10-2, 2-0 ACC) try to resume their winning ways as they host the Hokies (5-7, 0-1). Duke took a six-game win streak into the Christmas week break. Devils freshman Cooper Flagg averages 16.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Miami at Boston College

Interim coach Bill Courtney takes over as his Hurricanes visit the Eagles. Jim Larrañaga announced his retirement on Dec. 26, 2024. The 75-year-old went 716-483 in 39 years, leading Miami (2023) and George Mason (2006) to the Final Four.

The No. 3 Cyclones bring a seven-game win streak into their Big 12 opener against the Buffaloes. Colorado has won four in a row. Iowa State smacked Colorado 99-71 in Maui on Nov. 27, in a game that does not count toward their conference records.

Southern at Nebraska

The Jaguars arrive in Lincoln, Neb., ready to play the Cornhuskers. Nebraska beat Murray State, Hawaii and Oregon State in the final to win the Diamond Head Classic championship. Brice Williams (NEB) averaged 22 points during the three-game event.
