College Basketball, also known as NCAA Basketball, is the highest level of basketball competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States. College Basketball teams are made up of student-athletes attending institutions of higher education in the United States. It is one of the most popular sports in the country, with some of the most renowned NCAA Basketball teams including Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Syracuse, and Louisville. College Basketball is noted for its competitive intensity and passion that the student-athletes exhibit. Each NCAA Basketball season consists of a regular season with each team playing approximately 3-4 conferences games and 20-25 games outside of the conference. The season is then capped off with the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, commonly referred to as the “Big Dance” or the “March Madness”, where 68 teams compete in single-elimination bracket to determine the Division I National Champion. This tournament remains one of the most popular sporting events in the United States and is often the most “bet on” event of the year in the US. NCAA Basketball has a long and rich history dating back to its first recorded game in 1892 and only getting more popular as the years went on. Some of the big names that have graced the NCAA Basketball courts over the years include: Lew Alcindor (renamed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once converted to Islam), Bill Walton, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James; to name a few. Overall, college basketball continues to remain one of the most popular sports in the US, with intense rivalries and passion for the sport fueling the culture of the competition. NCAA Basketball season excites fans and players alike every year, as they hope for a sweet victory in the tournament and the chance to take home a National Championship.

Big East play gets underway for Creighton (7-4) and Georgetown (8-2) from the nation's capital. The Bluejays are 6-0 against the Hoyas since 2021-22. Creighton's 7-foot-1 senior Ryan Kalkbrenner averaged 16 points per game across those contests.

Memphis at Virginia

The No. 21 Tigers (8-2) and Cavaliers (6-4) end their home-and-home set. Memphis broke away from Virginia for a resounding 77-54 victory in December 2023. Tyrese Hunter scored 23 points as Memphis upset then-No. 16 Clemson 87-82 in overtime Dec. 14.

Xavier at Connecticut

The No. 11Huskies (8-3) host the Musketeers (8-3) in a Big East opener. UConn has won four in a row following an 0-3 trip to Maui in November. UConn went 3-0 during the 2023-24 season series after smashing Xavier 87-60 in the Big East quarterfinals.

Big man Nate Bittle and the No. 12 Ducks (9-1) brace for the Lumberjacks (5-5). Oregon comes off a 73-71 setback against UCLA. Bittle, a 7-foot senior, averages 14.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game after collecting 22 and 10 against the Bruins.

Montana State at USC

The Trojans (6-4) host the Bobcats (5-5). USC won the only previous meeting, 74-68 in overtime in 1968. Desmond Claude (USC) totaled 42 points in his last two games. Montana State was picked to win the Big Sky Conference in the preseason media poll.

Georgetown at Syracuse

The Orange host the Hoyas. Syracuse is 5-4, with the wins coming at home, and all losses happening on the road. Georgetown seeks its first road win over Syracuse since 2016. Donnie Freeman (SYR) is averaging 19.3 points across his past four games.

Gonzaga vs Connecticut

The No. 8 Bulldogs and No. 18 Huskies meet in the Hall of Fame Series. UConn's 12-game NCAA Tournament win streak includes an 82-54 decision over Gonzaga in the 2023 Elite Eight. Gonzaga's Ryan Nembhard leads the nation with 10.7 assists per contest.

Tennessee at Illinois

The No. 1 Volunteers (9-0) head to the Land of Lincoln to take on the Fighting Illini (7-2). Tennessee celebrated its first week atop the AP rankings since February 2019 by taking down Miami 75-62 in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.

Seton Hall at Rutgers

The 2024 Garden State Hardwood Classic sees the Pirates (5-5) visit the Scarlet Knights (6-4). Seton Hall leads the all-time series 42-32 against its in-state rival. Rutgers snapped a three-game slide by defeating Penn State 80-76 on Dec. 10.
