College Beach Volleyball

College Beach Volleyball is a coed sport that is played on college campuses throughout the United States. The sport started in the early 1960s. In the 1980s, it started to gain prominence when many universities began to make beach volleyball an NCAA championship sport. Today, it is one of the most popular college sports in the United States. The league is composed of two divisions: the NCAA Division I and the National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association (NCSVA). Division I is the most competitive and is comprised of competitive programs with Division I student-athletes. The NCSVA is a non-profit organization that is operated by college teams at the club and intercollegiate levels. NCAA Division I teams must compete against other NCAA Division I teams during the regular season. The season runs from late March through early May and is divided into two different phases: the regular season and the playoffs. During the regular season, teams compete against each other in sets of three, best two out of three. The teams are deemed to be in the playoffs once they have reached the Division I Conference Championships. The Conference Championships are a three-day tournament with the championship set to three or four games. The winner of the Conference Championships is invited to the National Championships. The National Championships are held each year at different beach venues. The single-elimination tournament features eight teams from Division I and two teams from the NCSVA. The teams are divided into four brackets with the winners of each bracket advancing to the National Championship match. College beach volleyball is a high-level competition and is the perfect place to watch some of the best collegiate sand volleyball athletes in action. The top teams to watch for each season include Long Beach State, Hawaii, Florida State, UCLA, USC, and Pepperdine. Each of these teams are led by some of the best collegiate sand volleyball players in the sport. Popular players this season include Morgan Paul, Rachel Nieto, Jessie Prichard, Christina Soyos, and Elle Leppanen. The National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championships have been held each year since 2014 and have been won by Long Beach State in 2014, Hawaii in 2015 and 2016, and Pepperdine in 2017 and 2018.
