Def Jam's How to Be a Player
Dray (Bill Bellamy) has a problem: He has a girlfriend, Lisa (Lark Voorhies), but can't seem to say no to any beautiful woman who walks his way. When he's not with Lisa or hanging out with his buddies, David (Pierre), Kilo (Jermaine "Big Hug" Hopkins) and Spootie (A.J. Johnson), he's out with one of his many lady friends. Dray's sister (Natalie Desselle) is both disgusted and fascinated by his behavior, so she organizes a party for him -- and invites all his ladies -- to teach him a lesson.

Buggin' Out believes a pizzeria in a black neighborhood should showcase black actors, but Sal disagrees. The wall becomes a symbol of racism and hate to Buggin' Out and to other people in the neighborhood, and tensions rise.

The lives of various characters intersect at Harlem's renowned Cotton Club. Handsome horn player Dix Dwyer falls for Vera Cicero, the stunning girlfriend of famous gangster Dutch Schultz. Meanwhile Dix's brother, Vincent, falls in with Schultz's crew, while Owney Madden, the jazz venue's proprietor, has his own mob ties. Although Dix goes on to become a Hollywood actor, his life doesn't get any less complicated or dangerous.

Roy McCormick (Martin Lawrence) is a college basketball coach more famous for his temper than for his coaching ability. After one of his rages gets him banned from the sport, Roy takes a job coaching basketball at a middle school in an attempt to repair his reputation. Amazingly, what Roy began as a show of rehabilitation begins to genuinely change him, and he learns to care for his team. His relationship with local mom Jeanie (Wendy Raquel Robinson) is a good influence as well.
