The CIA recruits Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger), a former Marine sniper who lost his trigger finger but can still fire a weapon with an unorthodox technique, to assassinate a Serbian military leader. After his partner is killed by the merciless crime boss Losado (Jeroen Krabbé), Chicago cop Eddie Jillette (Richard Gere) takes to New Orleans to settle the score. She manages to do this, but, when it becomes clear that the mobsters might want to silence her for good, she sends Oliver abroad and tries to gather evidence of the plot against her, setting up a final showdown.
