The Bushwhackers
After four years of bloodshed, the Civil War finally ends. Discarding his weapons, Southern soldier Jefferson Waring (John Ireland) dedicates himself to the cause of pacifism. Waring relocates to a quiet frontier town in Missouri, where he hears news of profiteer Artemus Taylor (Lon Chaney) and a campaign of intimidation against local property holders. When several of his neighbors are killed by Taylor's gang, the newly nonviolent Waring struggles to determine the right thing to do.

Brimstone
Pop "Brimstone" Courteen (Walter Brennan) and his sons, Nick, Luke and Bud, run a ranch outside the town of Gunsight, and are none too happy about the recent arrival of homesteaders in the area. Determined to cut off the interlopers' supplies, the Courteens rob incoming stagecoaches and even the local bank. But things change when a U.S. marshal (Rod Cameron) arrives in town to investigate, and Bud falls in love with one of the hated homesteaders.

The enterprising duo manage to convince Apache chief Santana (Iron Eyes Cody) and his tribe to help them infiltrate the fort, which is defended by Mexican military officer Chavez (Patrick O'Neal) and his men. While things don't go according to plan, Chavez's lover, Claudine (Mariana Hill), falls for Luke, which proves helpful to the scrappy bandits.
