The Manhattan Project
Ingenious adolescent Paul Stephens (Christopher Collet) learns about the grim prospects of nuclear aftermath when his mom becomes romantically involved with government scientist John Mathewson (John Lithgow), who is currently experimenting with the ingredients for atomic warfare. Shaken by what he sees, Paul decides to nab the destructive materials and make a small-scale display of their horrible powers at the New York Science Fair, but the Secret Service isn't pleased with his actions.
Coney Island
Eddie Johnson (George Montgomery) and Joe Rocco (Cesar Romero) were once partners in a carnival operation, but Joe tricked Eddie out of his share. In 1905, Eddie, now a promoter, finds his way to Joe's Coney Island saloon, intent on renewing their friendship and becoming a partner in his operation. Joe refuses, so Eddie concocts a plan with sideshow boss Frankie (Phil Silvers) to change Joe's mind. When Eddie befriends singer Kate Farley (Betty Grable), things take a different turn.
Mother Wore Tights
Frank Burt (Dan Dailey) is a vaudeville performer who drafts young Myrtle McKinley (Betty Grable) for a theatrical production. During a successful run as a stage team, Myrtle and Frank fall in love, marry and have two children. Myrtle goes into semi-retirement, but is later lured back to the spotlight, and their act is able to conjure the old magic. But when one of their daughters grows unhappy with her mother's ongoing performance schedule, the family must deal with the hard feelings.
The Model and the Marriage Broker
In New York, Mae Swasey (Thelma Ritter) practices the delicate art of matchmaking. When a handsome optician, Matt Hornbeck (Scott Brady), stands up his original match at the altar, Mae quickly sees an opportunity to put him with the more suitable Kitty Bennett (Jeanne Crain), a model and shop owner. Although Matt is reluctant to be tied down, he falls in love with Kitty and all goes well -- until the couple, neither of whom have known what Mae does, suddenly finds out about her profession.
Holiday for Lovers
During a break, college student Meg Dean (Jill St. John) takes a month-long tour of South America, but then decides to remain six more weeks in Sao Paolo, Brazil, to study with architect Eduardo Barroso (Paul Henreid). Panicked, Meg's parents, Robert (Clifton Webb) and Mary (Jane Wyman), and flirtatious sister Betsy (Carol Lynley) travel to Brazil, where Robert suspects the mature Eduardo of trifling with Meg. Meanwhile, a young pilot falls for Betsy.
