Lady Edwina (Lana Turner) and Lord Albert Esketh (Michael Rennie) share a passionless and unhappy marriage. First, she encounters Thomas Ransome (Fred MacMurray), a former acquaintance, and then she meets Dr. Rama Safti (Richard Burton). Initially, her attempts to seduce Safti fail, but soon a real love develops.
