Cover Girl

John Coudair (Otto Kruger) was wounded long ago when his fiancée called off their engagement, and when he spots the woman's granddaughter, comely stage performer Rusty Parker (Rita Hayworth), he's reminded of what he lost. A publishing mogul, he decides to put the naive young beauty on the cover of his magazine. Although he might lose her, Rusty's boyfriend, Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), refuses to interfere with her path to success. Ultimately, she must decide between riches and romance.

Ride, Vaquero

After the Civil War, King Cameron (Howard Keel) moves to Texas, purchases a cattle ranch and settles down with his wife, Cordelia (Ava Gardner). They find themselves at the mercy of Jose Esqueda (Anthony Quinn), a local bandit who has terrorized the town with his adoptive brother, Rio (Robert Taylor). Rio is kidnapped when he tries to mount an attack on the ranch and agrees to work for Cameron so he can be close to Cordelia. Though he's incensed at Rio's betrayal, Jose vows to get him back.

The Last Hunt

Sandy McKenzie (Stewart Granger) has a long history of hunting buffalo, but now that the herds have been so dramatically thinned out, he's come to regret it. Nevertheless, he partners up with Charles Gilson (Robert Taylor) for one last hunt that proves to be the worst of them all. Charles is a twisted, insensate killer of both buffalo and Indians -- and when he kidnaps and abuses a young Indian girl (Debra Paget), Sandy is pushed to the breaking point.

Rachel and the Stranger

In the Ohio wilderness during pioneer times, widower David Harvey (William Holden) wants a wife to help rear his young son (Gary Gray). He purchases indentured servant Rachel (Loretta Young) for $18, and they are soon wed. Unsurprisingly, the three don't make a happy family. Harvey only views the marriage as a convenience, while his son resents his new mother. But when Harvey's friend (Robert Mitchum) takes a liking to his new wife, he realizes he might feel something for Rachel after all.

Holiday

Johnny (Cary Grant) seems like a solid match for Julia (Doris Nolan), the socialite daughter of Edward Seton (Henry Kolker). Assured that Johnny is a worthy suitor, Edward approves of the pairing. But, as Johnny's wanderlust surfaces -- he is more interested in traveling than in business -- Edward starts to have doubts. Johnny also begins to wonder if he might not be a better match for Linda (Katharine Hepburn), Julia's outspoken younger sister, with whom he has much more in common.
