Soon after the end of the Civil War, Blayde Hollister (Gary Cooper), a former Confederate officer, is a fugitive from the law. He fakes his own death in order to avoid arrest and to lull his enemies into a false sense of security. It turns out Hollister is gunning for the brothers who murdered his family during the war.
