Crime of Passion
When newspaper columnist Kathy Ferguson (Barbara Stanwyck) meets cop Bill Doyle (Sterling Hayden), the two quickly hit it off and get married. Kathy gives up her career and heads to Los Angeles with Bill to settle down. The homemaker lifestyle doesn't suit Kathy, however, and she becomes bored with her life and resentful toward Bill because he doesn't share her drive for success. She then secretly decides to make major moves to further Bill's career -- even if it means murdering his rivals.

Widowed Les Martin (Cornel Wilde) is an ex-detective haunted by a case he left behind in Denver. Hangman's Knot
Major Matt Stewart (Randolph Scott) leads a troop of Confederate soldiers on a raid, targeting a wagon that is transporting Union gold. All of the Union soldiers are killed except for one, who informs Stewart that the war had already ended a month ago. Stewart leads the troop into hiding, knowing they could face murder charges. After capturing a coach driven by nurse Molly Hull (Donna Reed), the soldiers try to evade a group of bandits chasing them to steal the gold.
Silver River
Former soldier Mike McComb (Errol Flynn) cleans up a gambling town and takes the gambling equipment to start his own enterprise out West. On a riverboat trip, Mike prevents Banjo Sweeny (Barton Mac Lane) from stealing the equipment and alienates singer Georgia Moore (Ann Sheridan) and her husband, Stanley, all of whom are headed to Silver City, Nev. There, Sweeny and Georgia blackball Mike, who hires lawyer Plato Beck (Thomas Mitchell) and battles to establish himself as a gambler and banker.
Dodge City
In 1872, Dodge City, Kansas is the epicenter of cattle drives and lawlessness. Run by Jeff Surrett (Bruce Cabot), Dodge City isn't safe for anyone or anything. When Wade Hatton (Errol Flynn) arrives for a cattle drive, he's moved by the violent death of a young boy to take up the post of sheriff and take back the town from Surrett and his cohorts. But first he must contend with the rowdy townsfolk who, having been so long without law, desire to take the law into their own hands.

In 1930s Mississippi, lonely Jackson Fentry (Robert Duvall) lives by himself as the sole caretaker of a sawmill. One day, close to the property, he discovers a young woman, Sarah Eubanks (Olga Bellin), who is three months pregnant. Since she was abandoned by both her husband and her family, Jackson takes her in. The two fall in love and get married just before her death. Jackson raises the child as his own, until the boy's uncles arrive to demand he be returned to the family.
