When marketing professionals Mike Frye (Fred MacMurray) and Deborah Patterson (Dorothy McGuire) put several Western films starring Smoky Callaway back on TV, audiences can't get enough of the classic actor. But when the studio demands new Smoky Callaway films, the advertising duo have a problem: Smoky has been missing for 10 years. In an attempt to cover up their mistakes, Mike and Deborah hire a look-alike to impersonate Smoky, and the act goes well -- until the real Smoky returns.
Thunder Over the Plains
It's the late 1860s, and the U.S. government has yet to reclaim Texas as a state. A group of opportunistic and amoral Northerners head south to claim the territory as their own. The son of dog-hating former mailman Wilson Daniels (Fred MacMurray), young Wilby (Tommy Kirk) accidentally becomes a canine himself when he stumbles upon an ancient curse. Inadvertently invoking a magical spell engraved on a centuries-old ring, Wilby begins turning into a sheepdog at unpredictable times, only to later return to human form. As if this wasn't enough for Wilby, he overhears a plot to steal secret government information while in dog form, leading to unexpected adventure.

You Can't Run Away From It
Furious over the elopement of his daughter, Ellie (June Allyson), with a fortune hunter, millionaire A.A. Andrews (Charles Bickford) has her kidnapped and sequestered on his yacht. Ellie defies her father by escaping and taking a bus to meet her husband, only to lose all her money to a thief. After Ellie accidentally allows the bus to leave without her, she is befriended by fellow passenger Peter Warne (Jack Lemmon), an unemployed reporter who knows her identity and is primed for a scoop.

The Yellow Rose of Texas
This time around, singing cowboy Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers) is an insurance investigator sent to find a stash of money lifted from a company payroll. Portraying a performer on a showboat as an undercover guise, Roy meets Betty Weston (Dale Evans), the daughter of the alleged robber Sam Weston (Harry Shannon), who has recently escaped from prison. Together, Roy and Betty set out to prove her father was wrongly accused and track down the real criminal.
