In this award-winning adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, 9-year-old orphan Oliver Twist (Mark Lester) falls in with a group of street-urchin pickpockets led by the Artful Dodger (Jack Wild) and masterminded by the criminal Fagin (Ron Moody). Truck driver Danny Kenny (James Cagney) gets into boxing to help his talented younger brother, Eddie (Arthur Kennedy), pay for music school. Aspiring actress Molly Barry (Gracie Fields) needs a job, and grumpy retired politician John Graham (Monty Woolley) -- having divorced his wife and shunned his son, Jimmy (Roddy McDowall) -- needs a housekeeper. When Molly takes the position, she begins to realize the extent of the wealthy Graham's unpleasantness. Moly befriends the butler, Peabody (Reginald Gardiner), also an out-of-work actor, and slowly brings Graham out of his shell, teaching him manners while reuniting him with his son.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
During the 1850s, Milly (Jane Powell), a pretty young cook, marries Adam (Howard Keel), a grizzled woodsman, after a brief courtship. When the two return to Adam's farm, Milly is shocked to meet his six ill-mannered brothers, all of whom live in his cabin. She promptly begins teaching the brothers proper behavior, and most importantly, how to court a woman. But after the brothers kidnap six local girls during a town barn-raising, a group of indignant villagers tries to track them down.

Nick Rocco (Richard Conte) and his wife, Emily (Judy Holliday), are a happily married couple expecting their first child. But their home in Los Angeles is full of problems that Nick, who is a struggling writer, is too poor to fix. Emily convinces him to ask his father (Salvatore Baccaloni), an Italian immigrant and stonemason, to help with repairs in the house. However, father and son have longstanding grudges over Nick's refusal to attend church, and the men must confront their differences.

Jerry (Cary Grant) and Lucy (Irene Dunne) are a married couple who doubt each other's fidelity: Jerry suspects Lucy and her music teacher (Alexander D'Arcy) of spending an evening together, and Lucy is convinced Jerry lied about a business trip. When the jealous pair file for divorce, both rush into new relationships, but quickly realize their love never died. The soon-to-be-divorced husband and wife then both scramble to spoil each other's chances for newfound romance.

On a cruise ship headed to Havana, librarian Lulu Smith (Barbara Stanwyck) meets dashing attorney Bob Grover (Adolphe Menjou), and they quickly become inseparable. When they return home, their relationship is complicated by an inconvenient fact: Bob is married and unwilling to leave his bedridden wife. Their relationship dissolves, and Lulu decides not to tell him that she's pregnant with his child. But, when Bob becomes district attorney, a nosy reporter may uncover the explosive news anyway.
