Widowed Les Martin (Cornel Wilde) is an ex-detective haunted by a case he left behind in Denver. Now, Martin is the deputy sheriff of a small Arizona town with nothing to do but pull over beautiful local socialite Janice Kendon (Victoria Shaw) for occasional speeding -- until a mysterious murder at a nearby ghost town requires him to put his old skills to use once again. With the help of Sheriff Edwards (Edgar Buchanan) and Kendon, Martin must unravel a murderous plot involving stolen gold.

A Night to Remember

In this suspenseful comedy, Nancy Troy (Loretta Young) and her mystery-author husband, Jeff (Brian Aherne), move into a dark basement apartment in New York City's Greenwich Village, in hopes of stirring up writing inspiration. After the Civil War, friends Dan Taylor (Richard Dix) and Paxton Bryce (Preston Foster) yearn for new lives. Learning of Beauchard's intent to cheat them, the men keep his cattle, and Paxton convinces Dan to turn to cattle ranching. Their ranch becomes successful, and Paxton eventually marries Dan's sister, Abby (Frances Gifford) -- but Beauchard soon returns to challenge them.
