The World of Henry Orient

While trying to seduce a married woman (Paula Prentiss), egotistical concert pianist Henry Orient (Peter Sellers) is interrupted by two precocious schoolgirls, Valerie (Tippy Walker) and Marian (Merrie Spaeth). At first he thinks nothing of it, but as he sees them more often, he becomes convinced they're spies for his lover's husband. The girls, meanwhile, have found out who he is, and Valerie insists she's in love. She starts a scrapbook, which her mother finds and, of course, misconstrues.

Following years under the care of Dr. Lee (James Noble), Jesse (Beau Bridges), a troubled young man, is released from a mental institution. He decides to look for his family, who had Jesse committed long ago for reasons that aren't clear to him. After meeting Chloe (Susan Sarandon), a lovely movie theater employee, Jesse begins a relationship with her, but his past may prevent the couple from having a lasting romance. Can Chloe help Jesse overcome his psychological and emotional obstacles?

Editor Mark Chapman (Broderick Crawford) presides over a trashy but financially successful tabloid newspaper in New York City. With his hotshot crime reporter, Steve McCleary (John Derek), and feature writer, Julie Allison (Donna Reed), Chapman attends a Lonely Hearts Club publicity stunt sponsored by the paper, where he's shocked to run into Charlotte (Rosemary DeCamp), the wife he abandoned two decades before. Their argument takes a violent turn that might ruin everything Chapman has.
