It Happened to Jane
After a shipment of fresh lobsters isn't delivered on time to Jane Osgood (Doris Day), a widowed mother of two running a failing restaurant supply business in Maine, she hires her lawyer friend George Denham (Jack Lemmon) to sue the railroad company she believes is responsible for the damages. The court case generates lots of publicity and Osgood is famous. A charismatic news reporter (Steve Forrest) takes to Osgood, but that doesn't sit well with Denham, who also has eyes for her.

A newspaper photographer with a broken leg passes time recuperating by observing his neighbors through his window. He sees what he believes to be a murder, and decides to solve the crime himself. With the help of his nurse and wife, he tries to catch the murderer without being killed himself.
The Hitch-Hiker
Ray (Edmond O'Brien) and Gilbert's (Frank Lovejoy) fishing trip takes a terrifying turn when the hitchhiker (William Talman) they pick up turns out to be a sociopath on the run from the law. He's killed before, and he lets the two know that as soon as they're no longer useful, he'll kill again. The two friends plot an escape, but the hitchhiker's peculiar physical affliction, an eye that never closes even when he sleeps, make it impossible for them to tell when they can make a break for it.

In 1881, former Army Lt. John Haven (Dick Powell) acts as a secret government agent on a covert mission to investigate the theft of numerous gold shipments. Haven confides his mission to Capt. George Ilse (Tom Powers), who is doubtful over the shifty Haven's intent. Haven agrees to report his results to reliable gold mine owner Mary Caslon (Agnes Moorehead), then searches for the town's financier, Charlie (Jane Greer), whose nefarious dealings immediately bring her under suspicion.

In the quiet frontier town of Bitters, Wyo., a dispute between cattleman Blaise Starrett (Robert Ryan) and farmer Hal Crane (Alan Marshal) is about to boil over into a bloody feud. But the fighting takes a back seat to a new threat when a rogue cavalry captain, Jack Bruhn (Burl Ives), rides into town with his band of thugs. Now, with the citizens of Bitters held hostage by Bruhn and his men, Starrett must somehow rescue his town and restore his broken reputation.
Colorado Territory
Outlaw Wes McQueen (Joel McCrea) escapes from jail and travels to a meeting with his old partner-in-crime Dave Rickard (Basil Ruysdael). En route, McQueen dispatches a gang of bandits who try to rob the stagecoach and, in the process, wins the attentions of a young woman (Dorothy Malone) with whom he'd like to settle down. Convinced by Rickard to do one last heist, he finds out that his fellow henchmen are not to be trusted and the woman he truly loves is an ex-saloon girl (Virginia Mayo).
