She confirmed that the defendant, Christopher Gregor, entered Corey's Life when he was 5-years-old. Jurors learned of the family drama Corey was born in. Breanna Micciolo was only 17-years-old and in the 11th grade dealing with a methamphetamine addiction when Corey was born. His father, Gregor, didn't even know he was the father until he was 5-years-old.

Just weeks before Corey Micciolo died, just after a hospital visit, Breanna Micciolo, had to file an emergency order of protection to get full custody away from Christopher Gregor, Corey's dad. The defendant was initially charged with child neglect, based in part on the treadmill video police reviewed. After his arrest for murder, Gregor rejected the State's plea deal of a 30-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors wanted to challenge those assertions.
