Next to the stand was the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy on the victim. Dr. Robert Schott went into graphic detail for jurors.

Her defense claimed she in a catatonic state not responding to audio stimuli.

But investigators later found out that that claim wasn't exactly true. On the stand was an investigator who worked the gory scene at the Powell family home. The State claimed Sydney confronted and cornered her mother in her bedroom and fatally attacked her with an iron skillet and a kitchen knife.

S1, EP12 "Staged Crime Scene"The crime scene was staged. That's what prosecutors said about the fatal attack on Brenda Powell. Investigators came across blood found in different areas of the home. They said it looked like it was made to appear that an intruder had broken in and killed her. Jurors listened to more detailed testimony from Lieutenant David Whiddon, the lead investigator on the case. The defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity claiming she had a psychotic break during the attack.

Dr. James Reardon testified that the most compelling evidence of the Sydney Powell's mental state was the attack itself. It took three and half minutes. He said the spontaneity, brutality and lack of motive were all factors that suggested Powell was in the throes of a psychotic break.

Prosecutors hoped this would show that they had a rocky relationship before he died and help prove their theory of what happened.
