The aunt later testified that the big separation during his marriage with Lorena was because she was a mean wife.

On the stand this friend recalled that she offered Lorena a place to stay but Lorena never took her up on her offer. Next, the jury heard all about an off-handed joke Lorena made at work weeks before this attack. It include cutting her husband's penis off because it would hurt more than killing him. Jurors would decide if Lorena Bobbitt was really joking when she did this very thing.

This time it was for the prosecution team in their rebuttal case accusing Lorena Bobbitt of intentionally and maliciously wounding her husband, John, when she severed his penis and discarded it. It took three different forensic mental health specialists from one psychiatric hospital in Virginia who interviewed Lorena to evaluate her state of mind. They all found no evidence of temporary insanity.

Dr. Henry Gwaltney concluded after his hours-long evaluation that Lorena did not suffer from acute psychosis or temporary insanity. He also noted that she didn't remember a lot of what happened. Dr. Gwaltney confirmed that he interviewed the defendant for two intensive days.

The court-appointed forensic psychologist claimed that Lorena lacked the threshold needed to meet the criteria for temporary insanity. During the cross-examination of Dr. Henry Gwaltney, he pointed out how Lorena suffered severe depression and PTSD when she attacked John, her husband, mutilating him. But he disagreed that a psychotic break was the reason for the maiming.
