A detective in the district attorney's office took the stand. According to the Defense, these three experts had contacted them and not the other way around. This was part of the Defense's justification that they be allowed to testify, despite the late notice.

Phone records discussed in the trial proceedings revealed a rocky relationship between the defendant and the victim, John O'Keefe. Prosecutors presented the jury with a number of missed calls and texts messages that appeared to show an argument just hours before he was found in the snow. The last communication between Karen Read and O'Keefe happened at one in the morning on the day he died. She seemed angry and texted that she left his kids all alone at home during a blizzard.
