He needed more care before I would consider him safe to go home. That was Corey Micciolo's pediatrician's assessment after evaluating him the day before he died. Even after visiting with Dr. Nancy Deacon, Corey's mother, Breanna, was too worried to leave it there. She took him to the pediatric emergency room at a local hospital. She wanted to know how serious the bruises were on him and whether it was because he was being physically abused by his father, Christopher Gregor.

Just Like Corey Micciolo's pediatrician, a pediatric emergency room doctor concluded that Corey sustained a number of significant bruises and abrasions on his body. Jurors learned important medical details of Corey's, health condition-the day before he died. Results of his x-ray and blood work showed everything was normal with him. Dr. Ye Kyaw Aung told jurors there was no evidence of sepsis, infections, or broken bones.

The State in their case for murder against, the defendant, Christopher Gregor brought to the stand the responding officer who arrived at his apartment. It was after six-year-old Corey Micciolo was pronounced dead at the hospital. Local police decided to search the defendant's home to photograph clues and collect key physical evidence. Corey's initial autopsy concluded he died of a homicide.

The autopsy photos of Corey Micciolo was shown in detail to jurors. The State wanted to present how child abuse and child endangerment by his father, Christopher Gregor, physically led to his death. The defendant's trash became key evidence used against him for the murder of his son. Police retrieved child's clothing from the kitchen garbage can. It was Corey's sweatshirt, blue jeans and socks soiled with vomit and feces.

Detectives immediately turned their attention there when Corey Micciolo was pronounced dead at the hospital and his father ran out of town. Did crime scene investigators miss any important clues? The triage nurse who assessed Corey Micciolo shortly before he died testified. This nurse observed Corey's poor, life-threatening condition in the emergency room. He remembered Corey's last breaths recalling how traumatic it was to witness. He noted, There wasn't a lot of spontaneous movement from Corey. He was not really moving on his own. It was the defendant, Christopher Gregor, who brought his ailing six-year-old son to the hospital after he was vomiting and appearing lethargic.

Prosecutors were not done yet in bringing to the witness stand hospital personnel who tried to save Corey Micciolo's life. The registered nurse assigned to him recalls taking him in when he was feeling nauseated and too weak to move. Lindsay Carnevale remembered that the defendant abandoned his own son in the hospital after he died. Apparently, once six-year-old Corey was pronounced deceased in the ER Christopher Gregor immediately left the hospital and fled out of town.

According to the call screener for the State's Child Protection Services the defendant made a call to the their child abuse hotline. After Corey Micciolo lost his life in the hospital, Christopher Gregor skipped town. The officer who arrested him in Tennessee described the time they got him. After Corey's death, police needed to track down Gregor for questions as to what had happened. They utilized software for cell phone extraction to track him down across state lines.
