Taboo Photos Murder Trial
S1, EP20 "Possibility Of Death By Asphyxiation"The defense kept reminding jurors that there was no evidence of Tom Merriman dying of asphyxiation. Jade Janks was accused of killing him after she found nude photos of herself on his computer. Back on the stand was the medical examiner who concluded that the manner of death was homicide. The cross examination began Dr. Greg Pizarro. He already told the jury that even though Merriman died of a drug overdose, it is still possible he could have been strangled to death.

"The Sexual Assault Exam"The jury learned more about the details of Ezra McCandless's hospital visit following the fatal stabbing of Alex Woodworth. Hours after the killing, a nurse gave Ezra a sexual assault exam. She told the nurse that she didn't remember being raped.

"I Think I Was Raped"The sexual assault exam on Ezra McCandless took four hours. It included flossing for DNA collection, a vaginal swab and even fingernail evidence. And all of this went into the police report for this murder case.

"Nurse To Social Worker"The Defense had some questions for the nurse who performed the sexual assault exam on Ezra McCandless. She had said she thought she had been raped, despite no memory of the fatal encounter with Alex Woodworth.

Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP165 "Alcohol And Hypothermia"The medical examiner on the stand said the manner of John O'Keefe's death was undetermined. Jurors learned that the cause of death involved multiple wounds, including skull fractures consistent with blunt-force trauma, along with hypothermia. Dr. Irini Scordi-Bello went into the alcohol levels in O'Keefe's system when he passed away. According to Dr. Bello, his high alcohol level exacerbated the hypothermia as he was lying in the snow for hours during blizzard conditions.

S1, EP166 "Accident Or Homicide"Jurors saw autopsy photos as part of the state's case. On the stand was the medical examiner who did the full external body examination on John O'Keefe. Dr. Irini Scordi-Bello's conclusion was that the manner of death was undetermined caused either by an accident or a homicide. During cross-examination, Karen Read's defense zeroed in on Dr. Bello's conclusion that one of O'Keefe's injuries was blunt force trauma. She admitted to jurors that a punch could explain the wounds found on his head.
Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP167 "State Rests Case"The State's final witness was still under cross-examination. Dr. Irini Scordi-Bello testified that the injuries she examined on John O'Keefe's body could be consistent with both a hit-and-run as well as a severe beating involving blows to his head. Prosecutors finally rested their case against Karen read after two months of testimony. The spotlight now turned to her defense who tried to cast doubt on the State's case that she intentionally killed her boyfriend with her car.
Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP146 "Reversing At High Speed"Jurors learned the ranges of how fast Karen Read's SUV may have been going when prosecutors said it hit John O'Keefe. On the stand was Joseph Paul, a crash reconstructionist, who examined the defendant's car and performed road tests. Jurors listened intently to this expert's testimony. According to Trooper Paul's data, Karen Read's car moved forward slightly, shifted to reverse and accelerated more than 20 miles-per-hour into John O'Keefe.

S1, EP147 "Reconstructing The Deadly Car Crash"The crash expert testifying for the State confirmed that he did road tests with a Lexus SUV which is the type of vehicle the defendant had. Prosecutors alleged that Karen read intentionally hit John O'Keefe with her car by making a three-point turn and reversing into him. Photos and video clips of the crash reconstruction were presented to the jury. On the stand was state Trooper Joseph Paul who put together that recreation of what he concluded happened to the victim.
Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP148 "A Pedestrian Strike"The Defense had more questions during the cross-examination of the State's crash reconstruction expert. He just finished telling jurors that he recreated the alleged hit-and-run that prosecutors believed killed John O'Keefe. Prosecutors hoped Trooper Joseph Paul would convince jurors that the death of John O'Keefe was no accident. He claimed this was a collision between a pedestrian and a car.
Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP149 "Challenging The Crash Expert"Trooper Joseph Paul tried made clear to jurors that the evidence he examined was consistent with a collision involving a pedestrian. He also said that neither the blizzard conditions nor a car malfunction contributed to what happened to John O'Keefe. The Defense heated things up during the cross-examination. According to Trooper Paul, even if the car's mirrors were blocked or its backup camera was defective- an attentive and reasonable driver would not have reversed at a high rate of speed.
Killer Or Cover-Up Murder Trial
S1, EP150 "A Car's Key Cycle"The long cross-examination of the State's crash reconstructionist was not over yet. Trooper Joseph Paul said that he was initially told that this was a pedestrian crash involving a Boston police officer and that the vehicle was going in reverse. This was before he began his work to figure out what happened to that officer, John O'Keefe. Next, jurors learned about the inner workings of a car while the State's crash expert was on the stand.
