But just days later Nelson was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida--140 miles away.

The couples' youngest son happened to be a 35-year-old farmhand who lived and worked on the 10-acre property. Despite the Defense's hints of Scott Farris in being the real killer in this case, prosecutors argued instead that he had no motive to kill his father. One, he was completely reliant on him financially and two, he emotionally testified through tears that he loved his father.

Scott, who first discovered his father's remains, was being accused by his mother's defense as being the real shooter in Gary's death. Scott testified that he was told that he was a suspect in his father's death soon after he came across his remains. But until the arrest of his mother for first-degree murder nearly a year after Gary was killed no other persons were treated as a suspect by police.
