Jurors later listened to testimony from several members of her husband, John's side of the family. His aunt, who raised John since he was five, told jurors that he and Lorena rushed to get married because her green card was about to expire. The aunt later testified that the big separation during his marriage with Lorena was because she was a mean wife.

Jurors would decide if Lorena Bobbitt was really joking when she did this very thing.

This time it was for the prosecution team in their rebuttal case accusing Lorena Bobbitt of intentionally and maliciously wounding her husband, John, when she severed his penis and discarded it. It took three different forensic mental health specialists from one psychiatric hospital in Virginia who interviewed Lorena to evaluate her state of mind. They all found no evidence of temporary insanity.

Dr. Susan Feister concluded that after four separate interviews that Lorena suffered an acute psychosis when she attacked her husband. Jurors then learned about the concept of irresistible impulse. This was the criteria used in the Defense's case for insanity. Lorena claimed temporary insanity at the moment of the attack.

Her defense alleged that acute psychosis drove her to mutilate her husband. But the state claimed the very target of her cutting was in itself a goal-oriented, reasoned action.
