Toward the end of this interview, the defendant sounded frustrated at the two detectives questioning her.

Six-year-old Corey Micciolo lost his life by blunt force trauma suffered when his father, Christopher Gregor, forced him to run on a treadmill because he was too fat. The defendant was charged with first-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child. He faced a maximum Penalty of 40 years in prison.

She confirmed that the defendant, Christopher Gregor, entered Corey's Life when he was 5-years-old. Jurors learned of the family drama Corey was born in. Breanna Micciolo was only 17-years-old and in the 11th grade dealing with a methamphetamine addiction when Corey was born. His father, Gregor, didn't even know he was the father until he was 5-years-old.

Just weeks before Corey Micciolo died, just after a hospital visit, Breanna Micciolo, had to file an emergency order of protection to get full custody away from Christopher Gregor, Corey's dad. The defendant was initially charged with child neglect, based in part on the treadmill video police reviewed. After his arrest for murder, Gregor rejected the State's plea deal of a 30-year prison sentence.

To do this--prosecutors introduced text messages between Corey's parents, Corey's bruises, and hospital visits.

Scott Nelson was determined to let the jury know about his mistreatment while incarcerated in federal prison.

While he wanted to testify to the jury about issues he believed they should know Nelson's lawyers thought otherwise believing it didn't help his case against life on death row.

Three different doctors testified for the Defense's case claiming Nelson had mitigating factors that led him to murder which included serious cognitive impairment. Prosecutors wanted to challenge those assertions.
