Burn Pile Murder Trial

S1, EP9 "Trail Of Blood"

Follow the bloody trail was the theme in the crime scene technician's testimony. Investigators found blood stains in different parts of the home. The death investigation of Gary Farris, a prominent real estate attorney, was an evidence-heavy case. Crime scene investigators uncovered a trail of blood, bullet projectiles, and other key pieces of evidence linked to how Gary lost his life. The tedious task in processing a large crime scene was made clear to jurors.

Burn Pile Murder Trial

S1, EP10 "The Lead Investigator"

So far crime scene photos dominated this trial. Just hours after police showed up to the scene where Gary Farris' remains lied, crime scene technicians took numerous photos, flew drones, and processed key pieces of evidence. The prosecution team hoped all the crime scene photos would show evidence proving Melody killed her husband of 38-years. What started off with a hunch that he accidentally fell into a fire pit turned into details of a cover-up in a fatal shooting.

Burn Pile Murder Trial

S1, EP11 "Human Remains"

Jurors learned of the details of the burn pile where Gary Farris charred up remains were found. Investigators did their best to sift, excavate and collect all of the identified human remains in that piled up area. The human remains first dug up by police were presented in Court. One of the crime scene technicians claimed that the burn pit where the victim's remains were found was still smoldering. The lead crime scene investigator remembered how hot it was when he started working in the area.

Burn Pile Murder Trial

S1, EP12 "Challenging The Police's Investigation"

Melody Farris's lead attorney had more questions for the lead crime scene investigator testifying. Chris Shaw recalled working with his team to meticulously identify and collected the human remains of Gary found charred in a fire pit. The Defense nitpicked the lead crime scene investigators work in this case. Melody's defense accused police of confirmation bias in only zeroing in on her for the murder of her husband.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP37 "The Court-Appointed Evaluation"

Jurors heard a different mental health evaluation of Lorena Bobbitt. It came from a court-appointed forensic psychologist. Dr. Henry Gwaltney concluded after his hours-long evaluation that Lorena did not suffer from acute psychosis or temporary insanity. He also noted that she didn't remember a lot of what happened. Dr. Gwaltney confirmed that he interviewed the defendant for two intensive days.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP38 "The Capacity For Control"

Jurors were brought back to expert evaluation as to Lorena Bobbitt's state of mind when she mutilated John, her husband. The court-appointed forensic psychologist claimed that Lorena lacked the threshold needed to meet the criteria for temporary insanity. During the cross-examination of Dr. Henry Gwaltney, he pointed out how Lorena suffered severe depression and PTSD when she attacked John, her husband, mutilating him. But he disagreed that a psychotic break was the reason for the maiming.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP39 "The Forensic Psychologists"

More expert testimony from a court-appointed forensic psychologist continued. Lorena Bobbitt's attorney was challenging Dr. Henry Gwaltney's report that concluded she did not suffer temporary insanity when she maimed her husband, John. Next to the stand was the third and final court-appointed mental health doctor who evaluated the defendant-Dr. Evan Nelson.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP40 "A Third Medical Opinion"

The third licensed psychologist working at the same psychiatry hospital in Virginia took the stand. Prosecutors wanted to convince the jury that Lorena Bobbitt was fully aware and knew right from wrong when she chose to chop off her husband John's genitalia and throw it away. Dr. Evan Nelson read through his report and noted for the jury the conduct of his interview with the defendant.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP41 "Anger Not Insanity"

According to her mental health evaluation, Lorena Bobbitt was getting ready to leave her marriage to John. That was just days before she attacked her husband. So, why did she attack him? That'll be a question for jurors ahead in their deliberations. Cross-examination began on the third court-appointed mental health doctor who evaluated her. Dr. Evan Nelson was also the third expert to dismiss the idea that Lorena suffered from temporary insanity when she attacked her husband and mutilated him.

The Lorena Bobbitt Trial

S1, EP42 "Closing Arguments"

Closing arguments began for the jury. Soon they would decide Lorena Bobbitt's culpability when she sliced off her husband John's penis and then got rid of the severed organ in the neighborhood - forcing police to find and retrieve it.
