Portraying a performer on a showboat as an undercover guise, Roy meets Betty Weston (Dale Evans), the daughter of the alleged robber Sam Weston (Harry Shannon), who has recently escaped from prison. Together, Roy and Betty set out to prove her father was wrongly accused and track down the real criminal.

Roy later grows concerned when one of the boys, Chip (Tommy Cook), receives a visit from his outlaw father, King Blaine (Lyle Talbot). Chased away by the sheriff, Blaine is shot and killed, leaving Chip a pawn between Blaine's gang and Roy -- who knows Blaine left the take from his last robbery with his son.
