Harry Tracy
Famed outlaw Harry Tracy (Bruce Dern) is known for his daring train robberies, but lately he's concentrating more on matters of the heart. That's why he's traveling to Oregon to reunite with his sweetheart, Catherine Tuttle (Helen Shaver). She's the daughter of a judge, and it's no surprise that, when Tracy gets to Portland, he winds up behind bars. But no jail built can hold the desperado, and, after breaking out, Tracy finds himself on the run from every lawman in the state.

Roy later grows concerned when one of the boys, Chip (Tommy Cook), receives a visit from his outlaw father, King Blaine (Lyle Talbot). Chased away by the sheriff, Blaine is shot and killed, leaving Chip a pawn between Blaine's gang and Roy -- who knows Blaine left the take from his last robbery with his son.

When the emergence of the telegraph makes their jobs as Pony Express riders obsolete, cowboys John Blair (John Wayne) and Larry Adams (Lane Chandler) hastily purchase a stagecoach line operating out of Crescent City, Calif., unaware that the place is essentially a ghost town. The congenial mayor, Rocky (Lew Kelly), convinces John to compete in a horse race against Drake (Douglas Cosgrove), the man who sold them the bum deal, for a coveted government contract in postal delivery.

The Hellbenders
The Civil War is over and the South has fallen, but Col. Jonas (Joseph Cotten) has a plan to revive the Confederacy. Jonas needs to keep the treasure safe during shipment, so he places it in a coffin and forces saloon girl Claire (Norma Bengell) to play widow. Claire is unwilling to do her part, however, and puts herself in danger by opposing the dangerous Jonas.
Hands Across the Border
In this musical Western, rival horse-breeders Jeff Adams (Joseph Crehan) and Brock Danvers (Onslow Stevens) are in a fierce competition over a lucrative government contract. But the hopes of the Adams family are dashed after Jeff dies while riding the tempestuous stallion Trigger. To the rescue, then, comes quintessential cowboy Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers), who saves the horse from vengeful slaughter and aims to train him in the hope of securing the contract on behalf of his departed friend.
