The Dawn Rider
John Mason (John Wayne) suffers a cruel homecoming when he witnesses his father's murder as he rides into town. Incensed, he chases after the killers, but he suffers a gunshot wound that cuts his pursuit short. Alice Gordon (Marion Burns) sees to his injury, and Mason is taken by her kindness and beauty. But things turn sour when her beau, Ben (Reed Howes), becomes jealous. After Mason discovers the men who killed his father, his plan for a duel is sabotaged by Ben, who has been manipulated.
Winds of the Wasteland
When the emergence of the telegraph makes their jobs as Pony Express riders obsolete, cowboys John Blair (John Wayne) and Larry Adams (Lane Chandler) hastily purchase a stagecoach line operating out of Crescent City, Calif., unaware that the place is essentially a ghost town. The congenial mayor, Rocky (Lew Kelly), convinces John to compete in a horse race against Drake (Douglas Cosgrove), the man who sold them the bum deal, for a coveted government contract in postal delivery.

Wrongly imprisoned for murder, John Brant (John Wayne) decides his only option is to escape from jail and clear his name by finding the true killer. After breaking out, he ends up on the run from Sheriff Parker (Bob Burns) and catches the attention of outlaw Bob Jones (Lane Chandler), who offers to let Brant into his gang. Needing all the help he can get, Brant agrees, but running with these bandits only gets him deeper into trouble -- while the real killer remains on the loose.
Angel and the Badman
Quirt Evans (John Wayne), a cowboy on the run, is injured when his horse stumbles near a Quaker family's land. The family takes him in as he regains his health, and he falls for their young daughter, Penelope (Gail Russell). As Quirt falls deeper in love and becomes accustomed to the family's peaceful ways, his violent past starts to catch up to him. Eventually he is forced to decide whether it is worth letting go of his turbulent former life for his future with Penelope.

Undercover federal marshal John Carruthers (John Wayne) is suspected by the local sheriff, Jake (George Hayes), of stealing the town's payroll, but his suspicions are sidelined when young Betty Mason (Eleanor Hunt) announces that her father, an important businessman, has been murdered. Without him, supplies will not reach town, and homesteaders will starve. When town leader Malgrove (Edward Peil) offers to buy the locals out, John and Jake get suspicious, and uncover a land-grabbing conspiracy.
