The Walking Hills
During a poker game in a Mexican bar, a group of men discover the location of a lost wagon train -- and its cargo of gold. To prevent one man from cheating the rest, it's decided that they will find it together. Among them are horse breeder Jim Carey (Randolph Scott) and rodeo rider Shep Wilson (William Bishop) ; like their cohorts in the treasure hunt, they share a tangled history -- Chris Jackson (Ella Raines), Shep's current sweetheart, is Jim's old flame. Greed and suspicion soon break out.

Mac Traven (Tom Selleck) is a Civil War veteran who fought for the North, while his brother, Dal (Sam Elliott), was allied with the South. Barclay changes horses at the ranch of Karen Galt (Dorothy Malone), planting the seeds of romance before following Tanner to a mine shaft where the stashed loot is hidden. But a gang of outlaws who also want the gold then arrives, forcing Tanner and Barclay to team up and fend them off together.

Searching for work, cowboy Jubal Troop (Glenn Ford) arrives in a small town, where he badly injures his hand. Fortunately, a local rancher, Shep Horgan (Ernest Borgnine), is willing to employ Troop despite the injury. Horgan and Troop work together amicably, but Horgan's two-timing wife (Valerie French) threatens to create discord when she becomes interested in Troop, although he really loves another woman. A jealous cowhand (Rod Steiger) complicates matters by spreading lies.

Jess Collins, a poor miner, helps Sonny chase off two men he calls claim jumpers. When he arrives in the nearby town, he learns Sonny is no good and everyone in town is against him.
