The Man From Colorado
In Colorado at the end of the Civil War, Col. Owen Devereaux (Glenn Ford), affected by four years of brutal bloodshed, orders the massacre of a Confederate unit, even as they try to surrender. Devereaux's friend and second in command, Capt. Del Stewart (William Holden), is the only one aware of the surrender attempt. Devereaux returns home to a hero's welcome and is appointed a judge, yet his irrational and angry behavior continues, affecting his fianceé, Caroline (Ellen Drew), as well as Del.
The Texas Rangers
The Civil War has ended, the Union Army has pulled out, and now the Texas Rangers are needed once again to protect their state from harm. The newly reformed Rangers decide to take a chance by hiring a notorious outlaw Johnny Carver (George Montgomery). They offer the desperado amnesty for his previous crimes if he'll put his famous trigger finger to work for Texas. Carver agrees, but his new job won't be easy, as his old rival, the Sundance Kid (Ian MacDonald), is out for vengeance.

Count Three and Pray
After fighting for the Union during the Civil War, Luke Fargo (Van Heflin) is greeted with resentment when he returns home to his small southern town. A successful rancher, Tom Reece (Glenn Ford), forges a business venture with a Mexican landowner (Donald Randolph) but finds himself in a bind after squandering a lot of money at a hotel run by Frank Harris (Jack Lemmon). Frank has strong feelings for the Mexican's daughter (Anna Kashfi), and when he learns that Tom is in a tough spot, he exploits the situation to get closer to his potential paramour. Frank takes to horseback alongside Tom, and both are surprised by the results.
