You Belong to Me

Rich playboy Peter Kirk (Henry Fonda) crashes into Dr. Helen Hunt (Barbara Stanwyck) on a ski slope and overplays his injuries so she will continue her medical attention. He declares his love, and, although Helen insists that her career will always come first, the two get married. Soon, Peter is consumed by jealous suspicions of his wife's male patients and embarrasses Helen several times. Fearful of driving her away, Peter launches into character-changing behavior to prove his love.

The life of Prince Hamlet of Denmark (Nicol Williamson) is thrown into disarray when he learns that his father was murdered by his uncle Claudius (Anthony Hopkins), the current king, who is now married to Hamlet's mother, Gertrude (Judy Parfitt). Julie (Betty Grable), a beloved singer, is married to songwriter Marty Stewart (Jack Lemmon), who disappears while serving in the Korean War. Eventually, Julie assumes that her husband has died and marries Marty's closest pal, Vernon Lowndes (Gower Champion). Vernon and Julie have a happy marriage until Marty suddenly arrives back home, alive and well. The two men are at one another's throats, and Julie is mortified -- that is, until she realizes there may be an advantage to having two husbands.

While fighting in the Korean War, a Marine lieutenant is killed, leaving Sgt. Eddie Towler (Sidney Poitier) in charge. However, since Towler is black, he faces resistance from some of the men, most notably Pvt. Bracken (Paul Richards), a racist soldier from the South who doesn't hide his prejudice, and Sgt. Kincaid (Alan Ladd), who actually has more experience in the field. As Towler struggles to maintain order within his platoon, the men must continue to battle the enemy.
