Caffery (Martin Lawrence) is a professional thief with taste and style who is trying to rob billionaire tycoon Max Fairbanks' (Danny DeVito) unoccupied beachfront mansion. But in the middle of the robbery, he finds himself face to face with Fairbanks. As Caffery is being arrested, Max sees a ring on Caffery's finger and claims it for himself. It's Caffery's engagement ring, and he's determined to get it back.

A Soldier's Story
A black Army investigator (Howard E. Rollins Jr.) travels to a remote military base in the heart of the Louisiana backwoods to look into the mysterious murder of a black sergeant toward the tail end of World War II. Once he arrives, the investigator discovers an Army regiment and an entire community that, despite the beginnings of integration, is still torn apart by race and segregation. He soon learns that on this base, trust is sparse and secrets are a currency all their own.

Navy fighter pilots Ben Gannon (Josh Lucas), Henry Purcell (Jamie Foxx) and Kara Wade (Jessica Biel) are tasked with training an unmanned plane to hit important overseas targets. Ben doesn't trust the artificial-intelligence technology, especially after the plane is hit by lightning and rewired. However, the Navy is determined to put the plane in the air -- even after it goes off on a mission of its own. Ben knows he has to stop the technology before it sparks a new world war.
