Washington hosts UCLA in a huge Big Ten Conference women’s college volleyball rivalry match on Wednesday.
What is old is new again as former Pac-12 rivals Washington (13-1) and UCLA (7-6) face-off as members of the Big Ten in women’s college volleyball. This season the 24th ranked Huskies have been one of the best teams in the country, starting off the season with a 13 match winning streak. They are coming off their first loss of the season against ninth-ranked Wisconsin (3-0) and look to bounce back against a very familiar opponent. For the Bruins, they started the season 5-1, but have struggled over the last seven matches. Since that strong start to the season the Bruins have lost five of the last seven matches, falling out of contention and the rankings in women’s college volleyball.

Last season the Huskies finished just 16-15 overall. That included two lopsided losses to the Bruins with the first match decided in straight sets and the second in four sets. In both matches the Bruins controlled the tempo and momentum from the very beginning and never relinquished the leads that they built.
This season the Huskies have been considerably better as a team. They are just three wins from tying last season’s win total in half the matches and have the opportunity to get in the win column against the Bruins for the first time since the 2022 season.
Molly Wilson and Alexis Haury have led the offense with 305 and 230 assists, respectively setting up a well balanced offensive attack. All season those two have made the Huskies formidable with just one loss and only two matches that needed a fifth set to come away with a win.
