Stanford continues its North Carolina road trip on Sunday with an ACC matchup against UNC in women’s volleyball action.
On Sunday afternoon, UNC will host No. 7 Stanford at Carmichael Arena as the regular season begins to wind to a close. The Tar Heels bring an overall record of 20-6 and a conference record of 12-5 into Sunday’s contest which has them sitting in a tie for fifth place with Georgia Tech in the conference standings. The team’s most recent match was played against Cal on Friday night and resulted in a four-set victory in front of 1600 fans. The Golden Bears took the first set in a 25-22 win, but the Tar Heels bounced back to win the next three and secure the victory. Mabrey Shaffmaster led the UNC offense with 19 kills while Safi Hampton and Emani Foster joined her in double figures with 13 and 11 kills, respecitvely. Maddy May handled the defensive efforts for the Tar Heels, finishing the match with 19 digs.

The Cardinal has had a strong first season in the ACC and is currently sitting in third place in the standings with a conference record of 14-3 and an overall record of 22-4. The team has won six straight matches with the most recent being a 3-0 sweep of Duke on Friday night.
Ipar Kurt continued her offensive dominance, leading the Cardinal with 19 kills in the win. Jordyn Harvey was the only other player with double digit kills with 12 as Stanford made quick work of the Blue Devils. Harvey did record a double-double by helping out on defense with 10 digs. Elena Oglivie led the defense with 13 digs while Elia Rubin added 12 to the stat sheet.
Stanford and UNC have met three times in their histories and the Cardinal leads the series 2-1. The least meeting between the teams resulted in a straight set win for UNC.
