Either Washington State or Pepperdine will take its first loss of the season, as the perfect West Coast Conference teams meet on Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon, Washington State will host Pepperdine as two of the top teams in the West Coast Conference go head-to-head to own the top spot outright. While the Waves are currently under .500 overall with a 6-7 record, they are 3-0 in conference play so far and will look to extend that win streak to four games today. On Thursday night, the team traveled Gonzaga, winning in four sets behind strong hitting from Maggie Rickert who finished the match with 19 kills. Rickert also added 14 digs to the stat sheet for a double-double. Maddie Cugino had 19 digs to lead the team defensively and helped hold the Bulldogs to a hitting percentage of .206.

The Cougars have been strong this season and will also look to build on their three match win streak today to improve to 9-4 overall and stay perfect in conference play. On Thursday night, Washington State hosted Portland, playing a tough five sets that saw the Cougars come out on top. Sage Brustad finished the game on top offensively for Washington State with 20 kills, but three other Cougars finished with double figure kills as well. Taryn Vrieling had 13 kills on 40 swings, while Katy Ryan and Breccan Scheck added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Emma Barbero handled the defensive efforts with 25 digs, but Brustad and setter Italia Bernal each finished with 11 digs to give them double-doubles as Bernal ended the match with 46 assists.
This will only be the second meeting between Washington State and Pepperdine, as Washington State just joined the West Coast Conference. The last time the programs met was in 2022 and the game went to five sets with Pepperdine earning the win.
