A Top 25 battle will take place Wednesday night as No. 1 Pitt hosts No. 3 Penn State in women’s college volleyball.
On Wednesday night, No. 3 Penn State will take a road trip to Pitt at Fitzgerald Field House at 7 p.m. ET for a women’s college volleyball matchup. The Nittany Lions are currently undefeated at 8-0 and have beaten three ranked teams thus far. The last four teams have been sweeps, with the most recent being played at home against St. John’s on Saturday. Jess Mruzik was a powerhouse on offense and finished the match with a team-high 16 kills on 37 swings. Collectively, the team hit .309 in the win. On the defensive end, Gillian Grimes turned in eight digs, while Mruzik and Ava Falduto were not far behind with six digs each.

The Panthers are also undefeated at 6-0 and have beaten each of their opponents in straight sets, including then-No. 23 USC and then-No. 10 Oregon. The team’s most recent games were all played in California with UC Santa Barbara being the last match of the road trip. Olivia Babcock had a team-high 15 kills on 31 swings for a hitting percentage of .419 and Valeria Vasquez Gomez was close behind with 12 kills on 22 swings to hit .409. Babcock and Blaire Bayless each had six digs to cover the defensive efforts and the Panthers held the Gauchos to just a .174 hitting percentage.
