Big Ten play continues on Friday night for first place Nebraska and last place Michigan State in East Lansing.
On Friday night, Michigan State will welcome No. 2 Nebraska to East Lansing with the hopes of pulling off the upset and earning its first conference win. The Spartans are currently on a seven match losing streak, putting them in last place in the Big Ten standings at 0-6 in conference play and 7-10 overall. On Saturday, the team hosted Illinois and pushed the match to a fifth set, but ultimately came up short. Taylor Preston was the only hitter in double figures with 15 kills resulting in the team only hitting for .187 in the loss. Julia Bishop supported the hitters with a team-high 30 assists at setter. The defense was led by Nalani Iosia as she finished with 25 digs.

The Cornhuskers are at the opposite end of the spectrum and have been hot since the first match of the season. The team has now won 13 straight matches for an overall record of 16-1 and a conference record of 6-0 putting the ‘Huskers at the top of the Big Ten standings. Most recently, Nebraska hosted Rutgers, making quick work of the Scarlet Knights with a sweep. The defensive efforts were impressive as Nebraska finished the game with a total of 16 blocks at the net. Bergen Reilly led the Cornhuskers with 13 digs, but they were not challenged often as Rutgers only hit for .083. Offensively, Harper Murray led with 13 kills with support from Reilly who finished the game with 35 assists for a double-double.
When these two teams met last season, Nebraska earned a four-set victory at home against Michigan State on its way to a near-perfect Big Ten season.
