No. 6 Creighton hosts Marquette on Tuesday night in a battle of Big East unbeatens
No. 6 Creighton (11-2) and Marquette (6-5) opened their Big East Conference schedules with a pair of victories at home over the weekend. On Tuesday night, the teams meet at Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska, as the Bluejays host the Golden Eagles. Creighton has played in 13 of the last 14 NCAA tournaments, including 12 straight, and reached the Sweet 16 last year. Marquette, meanwhile, has 11 NCAA tournament appearances and has gone to three straight postseasons, losing in the second round a year ago.

Creighton swept UConn in three sets on Sunday afternoon, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18, attacking at a .471 clip. Ava Martin finished with 12 kills while Norah Sis added 11 to go with three aces. Kiara Reinhardt and Elisa Goetzinger logged four blocks each and Maddy Bilonovic notched 10 digs.
The Golden Eagles posted a 25-10, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of Providence on Sunday afternoon. Natalie Ring’s nine kills led the attack, which posted a .330 success rate. Samantha Naber’s 11 digs led the defense and Carsen Murray logged four blocks.
The Bluejays are 26-7 all-time against Marquette, with the teams splitting a pair of sweeps last season. The Golden Eagles won 3-0 at home on Oct. 6 and Creighton returned the favor in Omaha on Nov. 5. Neither squad has lost a set since opening conference play. Marquette’s last road victory over the Bluejays came in the delayed 2020 season, with a sweep on Feb. 6, 2021.
Ryan Theis is 233-78 for the Golden Eagles since taking the head coaching job in 2014. Kirsten Bernthal Booth’s record at Creighton is 470-189 and has been at the helm since 2003.
