Stanford hosts Kentucky in this Top 25 matchup with both teams trying to bounce back from losses against ranked opponents.
Stanford looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it hosts Kentucky on Saturday night. No. 2 Stanford keeps its ranking after getting swept by No. 5 Nebraska in Lincoln. Only the second set was relatively close against the Huskers as the Cardinal were held to a season-low .100 hitting percentage with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-14 final tally. It didn’t help that Stanford committed 22 hitting errors against the runner-up in last year’s National Championship. Outside hitter Elia Run led the day for Stanford with a match-high 10 kills and she added six digs, two aces and two blocks. Run had a nice tandem with middle blocker Lizzy Andrew who had .417 hitting percentage along with six kills and three blocks. The good news for Stanford is that it is getting back to The Farm for its last game in non conference play tonight.

There will be little reprieve for Stanford tonight though as Kentucky is ranked No. 11 in the nation. But the Wildcats are trying to avoid losing three games in a row after they lost to their in-state rival No. 4 Louisville in four sets in their last match. Kentucky is 6-4 on the season after the 3-1 loss against the Cardinals which was its last non-conference home game on the schedule. The Wildcats had two standout players against Louisville with Brooklyn DeLeye grabbing a team-high 17 kills and freshman Brooke Bultema had 11 kills and four blocks. The road doesn’t get any easier today though for a great opportunity to bounce right back. Who will step up as an underdog tonight against Stanford?
